Christopher Paul Stelling Announces Ben Harper-Produced Album 'Best of Luck'

Folk singer-songwriter Christopher Paul Stelling has released his album Best of Luck on February 7th via ANTI Records.Produced by Ben Harper, the album features an all-star rhythm section with Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks, Dixie Chicks) on drums, and upright bass player Mike Valerio (Randy Newman, LA Philharmonic). Music Sales Corp. is excited to announce the worldwide publishing purchase of certain copyright assets from Mike Evans, a key lyricist for the progressive-punk group The Tubes, who penned many iconic hits including “White Punks on Dope,” “What Do You Want From Life,” and “I Was A Punk Before You Were a Punk.”Known for their larger-than-life shows and satirical lyrics highlighting America’s consumerism and celebrity culture, The Tubes were a cult-classic and a notable part of the underground music scene during the 1970s and 1980s. “I am convinced my songs have landed in a great place … a place that will work hard to promote them. And now the songs are publishing mates with the legendary Dion DiMucci … quite an honor,” Mike Evans reflects on the deal.“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Evans’ catalog to Music Sales,” says Jeffrey Duncan, Executive Vice President of Music Sales Corp. “The Tubes undeniably shook up the 70s’ and 80s’ cultural landscape with their rugged individualism and fearless parodies, and Mike is responsible for co-writing many of their hits, which consistently see new life.” The anthemic “White Punks on Dope,” written by Mike Evans, Bill Spooner, and Roger Steen, ridiculed kids of Hollywood’s rich and famous, and helped propel the San Francisco-based group to widespread popularity.“Their fortunes changed almost immediately,” Evans shares. “Between ‘White Punks on Dope,’ ‘What Do You Want From Life,’ plus their superior musicianship and circus-like live show, The Tubes became a Bay Area sensation. We went with that and it became an instant underground classic in the Bay Area and then spread out across the world.”Continuing to hold cultural prominence and relevancy, “White Punks on Dope” has received many interpretations including by Motley Crüe, Nina Hagen, Elton Duck, and was parodied by Ric Ocasek (of The Cars) within the 1993 film Fear of a Black Hat. Additionally, a new cover has been released today by rock mega-group Down ‘n’ Outz, fronted by 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Joe Elliott of Def Leppard.Attracting Cher, Gene Simmons, Kate Jackson, and more as fans, The Tubes’ live shows featured lewd characters, inflatable props, explosions, dancers, acrobats, and choreography by Kenny Ortega (later known for Dirty Dancing and Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour). MSC Catalog Acquisition - Curtis Knight feat. Jimi HendrixHarlem soul singer Curtis Knight met Jimi Hendrix at the Americana hotel in 1965 and their musical collaborating began. Several early recording sessions yielded such songs as “How Would You Feel?”, “Gloomy Monday” and “Fool For You Baby”. Jimi recorded another crop of songs with Curtis in 1967 with his newly purchased Wha-Wha pedal including “Happy Birthday”, “Flashing” and “Hush Now”. Bryce Dessner Announces New Classical Album 'El Chan'

Bryce Dessner has announced the international release of El Chan on April 5th via Deutche Grammophon. The new classical album features Katia and Marielle Labèque on piano, and debuts the recordings of three Dessner-composed works: “Concerto for Two Pianos,” “El Chan,” and “Haven” - the latter accompanied by Dessner and David Chalmin on guitar. Originally written for the Labèque sisters, "Concerto for Two Pianos" premiered with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Southbank Centre in April 2018, and has been performed by many orchestras since including Orchestre de Paris, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, and Musica Nova in Helsinki - where Dessner served as Artist-In-Residence. It will premiere in the US this September with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. “El Chan,” both the title piece and the album, are dedicated to the film director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu and his wife Maria Eladia Hagerman. The collection of music is inspired by the mythical spirit ‘El Chan’ of their hometown San Miguel de Allende. Hauschka Releases A Different Forest

On February 8th, Oscar-nominated film composer and renowned pianist Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann) releases his latest album A Different Forest via Sony Classical. The album is his first for the label and sees him strip away his customary instrumental preparations in favour of straight solo piano. Hauschka’s experience of nature as his basis for understanding life and the composition of music is the central theme of the album. He said of the album ‘In A Different Forest, I’m focusing on the forest as a natural environment and contrast to the urban everyday life. How often have I gone for a walk and finished on the crest of a hill or maintain top, and found a new perspective on things. It’s quite a moving experience, realising that everything has been there for such a long time and will continue to exist, yet our human existence is reduced to but a fraction of the earth’s history.’ Released in October 2018, ‘Curious’, the first single from the album, heralds this central theme.
